New Piezo System Speeds Up Z-axis Image Acquisition

Physik Instrumente (PI), a leading producer of nanopositioning systems have introduced a new high-speed nano-focusing system. High speed Z-axis image acquisition is a prerequisite for the generation of 3-D views of bio-samples in high resolution optical microscopes. Conventional Z-axis drives use motorised actuators to create numerous focus planes during the focusing procedure. The individual "slices" are then processed using special software to create one 3-D image.
